Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how estimates and inspections work, what you pay, and what to sort out before your fence goes in.

Estimates and prices

Is the online estimate the final price?

No. It's an indicative price from the licensed fencer's approved rates. The licensed fencer provides a final written quote after inspecting your property.

When could the price change?

Your estimate is based on what you tell us online. Some things, like rock, roots, slope, retaining or tricky access, can only be properly checked on site. The licensed fencer checks them at the inspection and provides a final written quote, which may differ from your estimate.

Do I pay anything to get an estimate?

No. Online estimates are free.

How long is my estimate valid?

30 days from when we email it to you.

I don't know how long my fence is. Can I still get a price?

Yes. Tick "I don't know" and we'll show you the price per metre, then help you work out the length.

Can I compare timber and Colorbond?

Yes. After your first estimate, use "Compare another fence" to price a different fence at the same address. You don't need to enter your details again.

The inspection and your fencer

Who installs the fence?

The licensed fencer who covers your area. Their business name and licence number are on your estimate.

Do I have to go ahead after the inspection?

No. There's no obligation to go ahead. You only go ahead if you're happy with the fencer's final written quote.

How does Arclen Fencing get paid?

The fencer pays us a referral fee on jobs that go ahead. You don't pay us anything.

Who sees my details?

Only us at first. When you get a price, you agree that we can share your details with the licensed fencer for your area. We pass your details and your estimate to them when you request a site inspection. Our Privacy Policy has the full detail.

What if there's no fencer in my area?

We'll tell you, and you can join the waitlist. We'll let you know when a licensed fencer starts in your area.

Your fence

How do I measure my fence?

Walk the fence line and measure along it in metres. Don't include gates: we price them separately.

Do you do pool fencing or retaining walls?

Not through the estimator. If your fence needs retaining, tick it and the fencer will check it at the inspection.

Neighbours and council

Do I need council approval for a fence?

Many residential fences up to 2 m don't, but there are exceptions such as pool fences, fences that retain soil, heritage areas and some estates. Check with your council if you're unsure.

What about my neighbour?

Fences between neighbours are covered by Queensland's dividing fences laws. Talk to your neighbour before work starts.
