Priced with your fence

Gates

Gates are priced with your fence, by the same licensed fencer. Here are the options and how to pick the right width.

Short answer

Which gate do I need?

A 1 m single gate suits walking access, wheelie bins and mowers. For a car, boat or trailer you'll want a 3 m or 4 m opening, as a double swing gate or a sliding automatic gate. Measure the widest thing that needs to fit through, and allow some room either side.

Gate options

The gates on offer depend on your local fencer, and the estimator only shows the ones they install. Each gate is priced for the same material as your fence.

  • 1 m single gate

    Side access, bins and mowers.

  • 3 m double gate

Two swinging leaves for driveways and trailers.

  • 4 m double gate

A wider opening for bigger vehicles and trailers.

  • 3 m sliding automatic gate

Slides along the fence and opens by remote. No swing space needed.

  • 4 m sliding automatic gate

The wider sliding option for bigger driveways.

Swing or slide?

Swinging gates

  • Need clear, fairly level ground to swing open
  • No power needed
  • Single or double leaves

Sliding automatic gates

  • Need room along the fence for the gate to slide back
  • Open by remote
  • Need power to the motor

Measuring around gates

  • Don't include gate openings in your fence length. Gates are priced separately.
  • Not sure what you need? Choose "I don't know" in the estimator and describe it. We'll help you work it out.

Automatic gates and power

Automatic gates need power to the motor. Wiring is electrical work that must be done by a licensed electrician. Ask the fencer how they arrange it.

Gate questions

Do I include the gate in my fence length?
No. Measure the fence without the gate openings. Gates are priced separately, by type.
Will my gate match my fence?
Gates are priced for the same material as your fence, timber or Colorbond. Talk to the fencer at the inspection about hinges, latches and finish.
Can I get an automatic gate?
Where your local fencer offers them, the estimator shows 3 m and 4 m sliding automatic gates. They need power to the motor, wired by a licensed electrician.
